Quantum mechanics has changed our understanding of the world around us. No longer is it strictly assumed that we live in a purely deterministic, clockwork Universe like in the days of “The Enlightenment”. That isn’t to say that there isn’t still a fierce debate going on; there is. The determinist camp is still strong, and weaves its way in, piercing much of the mainstream academic and scientific communities at large. But more and more mavericks out there are seeing a new paradigm emerge on the nature of our Universe, whether they be scientists, philosophers, or your every day citizen. There are those out there who see a much more mysterious world, where Consciousness plays a direct role, from the macro level down to the quantum level. This mode of thinking covers a vast array of subjects and people, but inherently the core of it is “philosophical libertarianism”. Do you believe that we are merely balls of atoms floating around and that our idea of Free Will is nothing more than an illusion, and that every action in your entire life is a deterministic certainty set in place from the Big Bang? Or do you believe that nothing is set in stone and that there is a more dynamic, spontaneous, and indeterminist relationship between you and the world around you?

And what does Consciousness have to do with all of this, not to mention dice rolling? And sports?
